Disability Awareness Sunday

“One Body, Many Parts” celebrate Disability Awareness Sunday

Churches across the UK are taking part in celebrating Disability Awareness Sunday in 2026, with the help of a free, creative resource we’ve shared.

This year, Disability Awareness Sunday was 27th September 2026. But any Sunday can be Disability Awareness Sunday!

The most important thing about Disability Awareness Sunday is that Christians reach out and include disabled people fully in community life.

Catch the vision today! Get free resources and ideas to celebrate.

Free service resources for churches

You can register below to receive the new 2026 Disability Awareness Sunday (DAS) service resource free of charge. The 2026 resources and more are still available. Just complete the form below right now.

The 2026 theme, “One Body, Many Parts”, draws on 1 Corinthians 12 and celebrates the truth that the Church is not complete without disabled people.

Triona Brading: author of the DAS 2026 resource

At the heart of the new resource is a contribution from Triona Brading, a young autistic Christian, Roofbreaker with Through the Roof and ministry trainee. Triona brings insight, joy and imagination to the biblical image of the Body of Christ:

“’The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I don’t need you.
The head cannot say to the feet, ‘I don’t need you.’

Can you imagine it?
Body parts going rogue and breaking free of the body,
hopping away and trying to live independently of one another!”

Her gentle humour opens up a powerful challenge: what does it really mean for the Church to live as one body, where every person — disabled or not — is welcomed, needed and able to play their part?

Join UK churches to hold a Disability Awareness Sunday service or event, celebrating disabled people in our communities as ‘One Body, Many Parts’. Invite disabled people to speak, include a prayer, and/or play Triona’s video story of her lived experience of disability, by accessing the free resources. Just register below.

Why is disability inclusion important?

Logo for the ABC journey of disability inclusion. It shows three arrows, directed around in a circle, which are purple, green and blue. Next to the circle of arrows are the words: Access, Belonging, Commission (in purple, green and blue).

Churches are often not aware of the many barriers disabled people can face on their journey to join, or be fully included, in church communities. Accessibility of church buildings isn’t the only barrier – there are lots of social and attitude barriers too.

In a UK survey, 2 out of 3 people said they felt ‘uncomfortable’ speaking with disabled people, and 3 out of 4 disabled people reported experiencing negative attitudes or behaviour from others (Scope). Together, we can change this!

What can we do?

Your church can raise awareness of how important disability inclusion is in church – it’s a Gospel issue!

God values each human life equally. Even if we are not the same as others, we are all United, Needed and Honoured.

There are free Disability Awareness Sunday handouts available below for UK churches to give out to everyone attending a disability inclusion service or event.

The handout reminds people that the Church is ‘One Body, Many Parts’ and we are all needed – whether disabled or non-disabled. It also explains how Through the Roof helps churches and people across all disabilities to further God’s kingdom.
