Can you join us to pray for Disability Awareness Sunday?

We’d love you to pray with us for disability inclusion in the World Church, including to pray for Disability Awareness Sunday events being held.

Many churches in the UK, and around the world, are holding services and events to mark Disability Awareness Sunday. We want to cover these events in prayer and we warmly invite you to pray with us.

In 2026, the official Disability Awareness Week was Sunday 20–27 September, but any Sunday can be Disability Awareness Sunday!

So services and events continue to happen throughout the year, as more and more churches catch the vision.

Hands wearing a ring are clasped in prayer over an open book that may be a Bible, softly illuminated.

How do I join in?

Anyone can pray any time, but we were so grateful that someone was praying for 36 hours over the official Disability Awareness Sunday (DAS) weekend in September 2026. Every hour, from 8am (UK time) Saturday 26 September till 8pm on Sunday 28 September, at least one person was praying for DAS, and disability inclusion in the Church. Praise God and thank you for praying!

Prayer is always needed though! So please do consider adding DAS to your prayers, as it feels like God is really moving in this area of ministry in the UK Church, and around the world.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Disability Awareness Sunday?

Disability Awareness Sunday is a day to celebrate and ensure disabled people are fully included in church and Christian life. This year it was on Sunday 27 September 2026 (next year it is Sun 26 Sept 2027). But any Sunday can be Disability Awareness Sunday! So you can celebrate disability inclusion in church at any time of year.

Our charity Through the Roof suggests a theme each year for Disability Awareness Sunday and produces a free resource for churches and ministries. You can access this year’s free resource at: https://throughtheroof.org/what-we-do/equipping-your-church/disability-awareness-sunday/

Why pray for Disability Awareness Sunday?

Disability inclusion is not an ‘add-on’ to the Gospel, it IS part of the Gospel.

Jesus called disabled people and asks others to do the same in Luke 14’s parable of the Great Banquet, where the Bible says:
“Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the town. Bring in those who are poor. Also bring those who can’t see or walk.” (NIrV)

All people, including disabled people, are made in God’s image, and are part of God’s plan. A church without disabled people is an incomplete church. So praying for Disability Awareness Sunday is a first step to more and more churches fully including disabled people in the Church.

What are we praying for?

For Disability Awareness Sunday: a day to celebrate and ensure disabled people are fully included in church and Christian life. This year it was on Sunday 27 September 2026. But it can be celebrated any time that suits you.

But also for disability awareness in general and particularly in the Church, where our vision of Jesus’s radical welcome can become limited by tradition or concerns about resources.

Here are some suggested prayer points:

– Pray for churches and people taking part in Disability Awareness Sunday, that God will bless and encourage them to celebrate and fully include disabled people.

– Pray for the Biblical message to be shared that the Church is ‘One Body, Many Parts’, which is the theme for Disability Awareness Sunday 2026 (from 1 Corinthians 12).

– Pray for Christians to reach out and include disabled people in celebrating Disability Awareness Sunday, and to actively work towards disability inclusion as an essential ministry, just like care for the young and old, and all in the church family.

When are we praying?

You can pray any time that suits you! If you are holding DAS event, why not ask people to support it in prayer before and during the event?

Nationally, in the UK, there was a 36-hour prayer chain for DAS 2026, from 8am (UK time) Saturday 26 September till 8pm on Sunday 27 September 2026. This meant we are praying before and during many Disability Awareness Sunday events (many of which will have been held be between 9am and 12 noon UK time on 27 Sept).

But events continue all year round, so prayer for Disability Awareness is always a huge blessing! Thank you.

Do I have to pray for a whole hour?

No, if you pray independently, you can pray for as long or as short a time as you can. God doesn’t only answer long prayers!

If you join in with a future DAS prayer chain, you can sign up for the same one-hour slot as someone else. This is especially helpful if you agree to do 30 mins each, so we are ensuring the whole period of time is covered.
(But we encourage people to choose a prayer slot not yet filled, and pray for one hour, if they can.
The hope is to have every slot filled, so we cover the DAS weekend in prayer!).

We’ll update this page about DAS 2027 when we have more details.

How do I scroll up and down in the DAS prayer signup sheet and select a time slot?

If we use the same sign-up sheet as in previous years, it can be a bit tricky to navigate of you aren’t familiar with it.

You use your mouse (or swipe with your finger) to scroll down the prayer sign up sheet. There is no scroll bar at the side, but you can move down the sheet by clicking and dragging with your mouse (or with your finger on a phone/tablet).

To select a time slot, just click the box labelled with the times you want to pray – by using your mouse or tapping with your finger on a phone/tablet. Then type your name in to the pop up box that appears (or follow instructions below to be anonymous).

The sign up sheet is usually hosted on the website for the Global 24/7 Week of Prayer, which encourages churches to pray together every year collectively. (Anyone can set up a 24/7 prayer page at this link: https://www.24-7prayer.com/join-in/join-and-pray/ ) It looks like the page below.

The schedule lists the “Through the Roof” event on 27-28 September, with Annette Stuart speaking at 15:00 on Saturday and a note to pray for Disability Awareness Sunday.
Do I have to put my name publicly on the DAS prayer sign up list?

No, you can sign up anonymously. Just click ‘Book anonymously’ in the box when you register.
You will be asked to give an email address so we can send you information, but that is kept private and won’t be shared by the organisers. You do not have to create an account, as you can ‘Book as guest’.

Is there a virtual prayer room on Zoom/video chat?

No, we have decided to invite people to pray independently, without the need to login to a video chat or Zoom room. However, individuals are welcome to set up their own virtual or in-person prayer rooms, if they want to pray together.

I have a different question about DAS prayers – who do I ask?

Throughout the year, you can email annette@throughtheroof.org with any questions about DAS and the DAS prayers.

During the actual prayer chain each September, the easiest way to ask a question is to click ‘Contact the organiser’ at the top left of the signup page or click this link: 24-7 Prayer International – Sign-Up | Contact organiser

But you can also email our Together at Home fellowship who organise DAS prayer: together@throughtheroof.org

What is Together at Home and how do I join the group?
